Southern Colorado sees windchill temps as cold as 20-below

In the past 24 hours, most areas here in Southern Colorado have seen a 30-degree change in temperature, and with that brought a good layer of snow and freezing temps.

The snow might have stopped, but with single-digit temperatures, the morning commute was an icy one for drivers.

“Main roads aren’t that bad but the back roads are pretty icy, pretty bad,” said Todd Knisley.

But it was single digit temperatures with a windchill in the negatives that had people talking.

Boyce Harrington compared it to his time in the military, saying, “I’ve done winters in Korea because I’m a military vet — Korea was pretty cold, so this kind of matches it.”

Areas around Monument saw a windchill of 27 degrees below zero.

Beth Hickernell said, “My gas cap froze because it is so cold outside.”

While Alex Parker added, “My washer fluid is frozen. I have probably had to have stopped 10 times to rinse off the windshield since the airport in Denver.”

With temperatures this cold, you still need to be cautious on the roads. Interstate 25 was kept pretty clear with your side roads, on and off ramps and turn lanes being the most snow packed. So if driving today, make sure to take it slow and allow yourself enough time to stop if needed.
