Local CBD advocate’s Facebook page restored after ‘mistakenly’ unpublished, similar cases nationally

A Colorado Springs mom’s Facebook page has been restored after a Facebook spokesperson said it was “mistakenly removed.”

Jamie Scott runs “The Hempuralist” page on Facebook. She’s an advocate for CBD and started the page after she saw how CBD helped her son who has cystic fibrosis and wanted to help others.

But the social media site took it down Tuesday morning stating she was promoting prescribed pharmaceuticals, which is not allowed per Facebook standards.

The pharmaceuticals in questions CBD oil, which many swear by as a remedy for chronic pain and seizures.

“I was livid. I was angry,” Scott said. “I’m the voice for my son who has Cystic Fibrosis. I’m the voice for all the mothers out there who are afraid to say something or come forward because of the stigma attached. I felt they took my son’s voice away and my voice away.”

A red bar appeared at the top of her Facebook page stating her page violated the social media site’s page policies.

She said the message was actually different before she filed an appeal, claiming it stated she violated rules for promoting prescribed pharmaceuticals.

A quick search on the Internet shows other advocates and businesses across the country had the same issue and error message.

“We’ve still got a fight ahead of us apparently,” Scott said.

Scott was hopeful things would get easier on the site with President Trump signing the 2018 Farm Bill which made hemp, the plant where much of CBD is derived from federally legal.

But the FDA made it clear in a statement they’ll still be closely regulating CBD products.

Scott has appealed the decision to Facebook twice and twice and was told her page was still not in compliance.

“If they want to take it down, they can take it down, obviously it’s not going to take my voice,” Scott said.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 reached out to Facebook asking why the page is unpublished and for their comment on the issue.

A spokesperson responded late Tuesday night stating the page was “mistakenly removed.” Adding: “It does not violate our policies and has been restored.”
