New dental clinic at Peterson AFB saves money for other upgrades
Peterson Air Force Base is set to open a brand-new dental clinic, which will help fulfill a big need for the 21st Space Wing.
The new facility will serve thousands — “Potentially 25,000 people. We will be able to support retirees, military members assigned and family members,” said Jackie Holcomb, NCIOC of Records and Reception at Peterson Air Force Base.
With such a large amount of people, the need for a new dental clinic was weighing heavy on the base.
Holcomb continued, “As we move into a bigger role in the air domain, it’s just taking care of the Team Pete family and military members that are assigned to the 21st Space Wing.”
What makes this 16,000-square-foot dental clinic interesting is that the building is heated and cooled by an energy-conserving geothermal well field. This field consists of 27 wells; each one is 400 feet deep.
“This is the first Air Force dental clinic to have this on an Air Force base and it really just cuts down on heating and cooling costs,” said Holcomb.
The geothermal well field will cut costs by nearly 50 percent. That money will be spent elsewhere to upgrade the base.
