Water main break has traffic backed up on Academy
A big water main break between Village Road and Maizeland has drivers backed up on Academy Blvd., and due to safety reasons, that section of Academy is completely closed.
If you’re driving along Academy Wednesday and Thursday, expect to see a lot of brake lights and hear a lot of honking, as delays due to a water main break have traffic completely backed up.
Colorado Springs Utilities has been on the scene since Tuesday morning and are continuing to repair a nearly 50-year-old, 30-inch water main. But drivers here in Colorado Springs are not too happy with the traffic.
One driver, Eddie Marion said, “Even like the other way coming from the supermarket, King Soopers, I live there off of Rebecca so not even close to the water main, but it still took me 25 minutes to get home when it usually only takes me five.”
Macall Bowman added, “A lot of people get super frustrated and there’s not much you can do about it.”
If you want to try and avoid the traffic, try taking Village Road and Carefree Circle to North Murray Blvd. Or, you can get off at Maizeland or Constitution and head to Murray Blvd.
The good news is currently no customers are without water.
If wondering when Academy will open back up, crews hope to be done by tomorrow afternoon. Until then, you’ll have to take an alternate route or wait.
