Marty’s Saturday Morning Forecast – Much Colder – 10/6/18
Today: Cloudy this morning, mostly cloudy, breezy and much colder this afternoon with temperatures in the 40s and 50s for most areas this afternoon, but a few of the mountain valleys might reach the 60s. Scattered showers are possible over mainly mountain areas late in the day.
Tonight: Cloudy with areas of fog and patchy drizzle possible. The air will cool into the 30s and 40s across the area by morning. Snow will fall over the higher peaks along the Continental Divide at times where several inches of snow could accumulate through the night.
Extended: We are expecting a much cooler, active weather pattern to settle over the area for the next several days. Periods of snow are expected over the mountains along the Continental Divide the next several days, particularly during the night hours. Locally, a shallow layer of cold air looks to remain over much of eastern Colorado bringing areas of low clouds, patchy fog and possibly some drizzle at times. As upper level waves move over the state periods of showers and possibly some thunder should be expected, and some snow will likely fall over our local mountain areas at times. The timing of these waves suggests that the best time frame for heavier precipitation will be during the evening and night through Tuesday morning, but precipitation looks to be intermittent. On Tuesday the main wave looks to drift over the area, and if so the precipitation (including some snow) could become more widespread, but it’s hard to know how well put together this storm will be by that time, or where the heavier precipitation will develop; we’ll continue to track it. For many areas our first below freezing temperatures of the season may also occur over the next several days. Wednesday and Thursday should be drier and a little warmer. Another cold front looks to arrive Thursday night into Friday bringing colder air and possibly more rain and snow to the state.
