Colorado Springs man gets 10 years for killing mom’s boyfriend

The man who pleaded guilty to the 2017 fatal shooting of his mother’s boyfriend in northeast Colorado Springs was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday.

Grant Motsinger pleaded guilty to manslaughter back in July. He was originally charged with second-degree murder.

Police say Motsinger shot Kirk Maroo in a home on Vermillion Bluffs Drive after an argument between Maroo and Motsinger’s mother back in May of 2017.

Court documents say the two men started fighting, then Motsinger got a .45-caliber handgun, went back downstairs, and shot Maroo. Maroo later died at Penrose Hospital.

In addition to the prison sentence, the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office says Motsinger faces a mandatory three years of parole/probation.
