1 arrested after shooting man near Security-Widefield

Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office were called to the intersection of Woodstock St. and Buffalo Springs Ct. for reports of an altercation Thursday morning.

According to the sheriff’s office, a couple had run out of gas near Fontaine and Powers Boulevards and when they returned to the vehicle, a man came up to them and an argument started. The couple then left and went to their house, but the man followed them.

The couple went inside their house, but the woman called police after her boyfriend, Miles Caughey, pointed a rifle out of the window and fired at the man who followed them.

Deputies found the male victim shot and lying in the front yard of a home in the 6800 block of Woodstock St.

Authorities arrested Caughey without incident and the victim was taken to the hospital. The victim’s condition is unknown at this time.

Caughey was charged with second-degree attempted murder and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.

The area surrounding the shooting was be sealed off through Thursday afternoon.
