People in Fountain, Security-Widefield hit twice by damaging hail storms

Monday’s storm didn’t show any mercy to families and businesses still dealing with damage from the June 13 hail storm.

Broken windshields lined the streets of many Fountain and Security-Widefield neighborhoods.

“The glass goes all the way inside. The top is already bad. My back of the car is super bad. You see all the damage,” said Fanny Hutabarat, whose car is now totaled.

And the damage isn’t only to cars; tarps and tents are completely torn to shreds. It’s just a small example of how big the hail got.

“Light fixtures all around the house have been destroyed. The rooftop on the metal housing is all destroyed. The side of the house where the hail hit, the siding has to be completely redone,” said MaryAnn Pudder.

Many roofers are still making repairs from June’s hail storm. The damages from that one added up to nearly $169 million.

“My car got taken this storm, my mom’s car got taken the last storm. Her house got taken the last storm. And we’re just dealing with all the claims, redoing the claims and paying the deductibles,” said Megan Lawson, who lives in Fountain.

It’s taken two months for many people to start feeling like they’re getting back on their feet.

“I just got a new roof put up two weeks ago,” said Michelle Searcy, who lives in Security-Widefield.
“I was halfway there fixing it when it hit again, so I’m still working on it to get it completely fixed,” said Antonio Gallegos, who lives just a few doors down.

But as more storms make their way into the area, people are just hoping they can catch a break.
