Crews respond to wildfire in Wetmore near Adobe Peak

Update: According to the Pueblo Chieftain, the fire is 72 percent contained as of Friday morning. The fire that was sparked by lightning, has burned 85 acres. Thursdays cooler temperatures and precipitation helped firefighting efforts. All 62 homes in the area were not threatened by the fire and all pre-evacuation orders have been lifted. Previous Story Multiple crews are responding to a wildfire that was reported in Wetmore Monday afternoon. The U.S. Forest Service helped with firefighting efforts by using five air tankers and three helicopters to drop retardant from the sky. Six ground crews were on the fire lines and extinguished spot fires. ( MAP ) The fire is on Adobe Creek Drive, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. It’s currently in Custer County near Adobe Peak and Holt Mountain. ( PHOTOS ) The fire was reported to be about five acres in size, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office. A pre-evacuation notice was issued for the Florence Mountain Park area. A map was released at about 5:30 p.m. Southbound Highway 69 has been closed at the Custer/Huerfano County line.
