Double Fork Fire now 95 percent contained

Thursday the Double Fork Fire flared up fast thanks to high winds and warm temps, worrying all those who lived in the area.

“The flames got pretty tall,” one resident told us.

Fire crews quickly evacuated residents and shut down roads.

“Me and my daughter just woke up from a nap and saw all the smoke,” said one woman. “They were evacuating the town.”

CART teams worked to move livestock.

“We did now have a lot of evacuations because we didn’t have a lot of horses in the area,” said Dianna Quintana, who works on the CART team and lives in the area.

As the battle continued, residents were able to return around 8:30 PM. Early Friday morning, precipitation helped in the fire efforts. The Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office Tweeted out, “Favorable conditions overnight have helped with containment, fire 95 percent contained.”

The burn scar shows 500 acres torched.
