Coloradans to caucus Tuesday evening

Thousands of Democrats and Republicans across Colorado will head to precinct causes Tuesday evening to elect delegates for higher assemblies.

It’s a small but significant first step in the 2018 mid-term elections for governor, county sheriff, and numerous other local offices.

The caucus rules for each party vary slightly, but the fundamental idea is the same.

Voters in each precinct will elect delegates to represent the precinct in subsequent assemblies.

Those higher assemblies can include state senate, congressman, sheriff, or otherwise.

Candidates who receive enough delegate votes at those assemblies earn a spot on the primary ballot.

The 2018 Colorado primaries are scheduled for June 26.

Both the Colorado Republic Party and the Colorado Democratic Party have information on their respective websites on how to find the location of precinct primaries.

All caucuses will begin at 7pm.

In order to participate, voters must have registered as a Republican or Democrat before January 9, and have been a resident of the precinct that you will caucus in since February 5.
