iPhones new safety feature is going viral

A new feature on the iPhone now allows you to alert police is something is happening, without drawing attention from unwanted predators.

If a user has IOS 11 or above, they can click the sleep button five times in a row. A screen will then pop up allowing the user to choose from three options: slide to power off, medical ID, or emergency SOS. This allows users to quickly notify police in case of an emergency. Police will also be able to track your location to quickly send help.

For a faster way to reach police without having to choose an option, users can change the settings on this feature to allow the phone to call police immediately after pressing the button three times. To do this, go into your iPhone settings, and scroll down to “Emergency SOS”. Once you click on the tab, select the toggle that reads “Auto Call”. This will turn on the feature allowing you to directly call 911 after clicking the sleep button five times. Remember, you only have three seconds to deactivate the call if you pressed the button by accident.

The Colorado Springs Police Department wants to remind you to make sure you test this out before you find yourself in a dangerous situation.
