CSU Pueblo Students fight homelessness

After the Pueblo City Council blocked a decision to move a homeless warming shelter to the west side of the city, Colorado State University Pueblo students are speaking out.

Members of the Sociology and Criminology Club are upset the City Council decided not to put the shelter at the Hyde Park Community Center since there is no other place for the homeless population to go at night as the temperatures drop.

The students have started a Go Fund Me as well as a coat drive for the homeless.

Sophomore Haley Sardello says she want people to treat the homeless population like they would anyone else.

“Educating people is the most important part. And just understanding and having an open mind and understanding that these people are kind of just like us,” Sardello said.

There have been talks of putting the shelter at the old Salvation Army building, but nothing has been finalized.
