Safety measures being taken for Colorado State Fair
Wednesday night, tragedy struck in Ohio as 18-year-old Tyler Jarrel was killed and seven others were injured when the “Fireball” ride at the state fair broke a part.
Two of those victims are now speaking out.
“It went up high and then came back and when it was coming back it was too close to the ground and then it did it again one more time and that’s when it just hit the ground,” said Abdihakim Hussein, a victim of the accident.
Pueblo is preparing for the Colorado State Fair and are checking their rides, especially considering this year’s fair features the same exact ride that broke in Ohio.
The general manager of the Colorado State Fair, Sarah Cummings said, “They bring their own carnival inspectors to inspect those and then the Colorado State Fair goes in on an additional level and brings an inspector contacted through us.”
There are no plans to remove the ride at the fair, as those working for the Colorado State Fair feel confident in the safety procedures. They are also taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of riders and visitors.
The fair runs Aug. 25 through Sept. 4.
