Jury convicts driver in deadly Fountain hit-and-run

A woman has been convicted in a deadly hit-and-run that happened in the parking lot of a Walmart in Fountain in March 2015.

Rebecca J. Champigny, 27, pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity on June 15, 2015.

Today, Chimpigny was found guilty on all counts, including leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

In March of 2015, KRDO.com reported that Champigny was charged with several counts including careless driving resulting in death, aggravated vehicle assault, leaving a scene involving death, careless driving and driving without a license or insurance.

Investigators said that on March 16, 2015, Champigny ran over Jenny M. Carrillo, 67, killing her. They say that after hitting the victim, Champigny collided with a parked car in a parking lot in the 200 block of Plaza Blvd.

Champigny will be sentenced on December 19.
