3 Denver deputies fired for excessive force against inmates

The Denver Sheriff’s Department has fired three deputies within a two-week period for using excessive force against inmates.

The Denver Post reports (https://t.co/ATXc6pALtB ) that Deputy William Jackson and Deputy Steven Roybal were terminated June 27, and Deputy Monwell Fuller was terminated July 12. All three incidents occurred at the Downton Detention Center.

Jackson’s termination stems from a November 2014 incident where he threw a mentally ill patient back into his cell after seizing a bible as contraband.

In July 2015 Roybal smashed an inmate’s finger after kicking a cell-door flap, leading to his termination.

Fuller was fired after a January conflict with an inmate where officials determined he used force as retaliation.

Attorneys for all three deputies argued against their terminations.
