Portion of West Rockrimmon Drive Bridge reopens

Major work to replace the West Rockrimmon Boulevard Bridge between Allegheny Drive and Grey Eagle Drive is complete and the bridge reopened to trafficWednesdaynight.

There will still be various lane closures in both directions for approximately six weeks to full complete the work on the bridge.

“Lawrence Construction has worked extended hours to facilitate a quick replacement of the bridge to cause the least impact to residents in the area and we appreciate the patience of our traveling public who endured those impacts since the project began. Although motorists can expect lane closures over the next several weeks, crews will work continue to work to lessen any impacts where possible,” said Ryan Phipps, Project Manager for the City of Colorado Springs.

Replacing the bridge provides greater capacity to the existing channel supporting up to a 100-year storm event without over-topping the roadway; allow for increasing heavy vehicle traffic that has resulted from growth in the area since the bridge’s existence; and create a detached sidewalk across the bridge.
