Buffalo Soldiers memorial to be held Thursday

It was 150 years ago on Thursday that Congress authorized the establishment of six African American regiments who became known as the Buffalo Soldiers.

Several state and city officials will be attending the dedication of the Buffalo Soldiers memorial.

Mayor John Suthers, U.S. Rep Doug Lamborn, and State Rep. Terri carver will be at the ceremony.

It begins at noon, at the Stargazers Theater on South Parkside Drive.

The monument features the names of 23 Buffalo Soldiers Medal of Honor recipients, as well as a historical snapshot and several Buffalo Soldier maps.
