After shootings, community comes together for reconciliation

In light of the Dallas shooting and the deaths of two African- American males earlier this week, members of the community gathered Saturday looking for reconciliation.

Local members of Black Lives Matter were clear that more violence is not the answer.

What started as a simple Facebook post a few days ago, turned into hundreds gathered Saturday, discussing the movement of “Black Lives Matter”

Many of those gathered were upset and saddened tonight by the multiple shootings this week, calling for a change

During the vigil, several children and teenagers held signs saying things like “Proud to be African American” and “enough.”

The speakers all looking for reconciliation between the police and the black community, saying that shootings by police of black people need to stop.

They also said that the shooting in Dallas was not the way to deal with the hurt they have, but rather peace is the way to reconcile.

KRDO NewsChannel 13 spoke with one mom who said she came out for the future of her children.

“Just to come out and support it because enough is enough,” Jenaya McDermott said. “We want our children to grow up knowing that they’re safe and they’re not going to be hurt or bullied or anything like that just because of the color of their skin.”

The dozens of people that came out all agreed that love is the answer, and they hope tonight’s gathering can play one small part in moving the nation towards unity.
