100,000 people come to Memorial Park for Independence Day fireworks

An estimated 100,000 people flocked to Memorial Park for the Fourth of July fireworks show Monday night.

The show featured bands before the display as well as patriotic songs performed by the Colorado Springs Philharmonic.

There were plenty of attractions and food stands for those who came.

Some spectators called it a tradition they wouldn’t miss.

“I’ve got four daughters ranging in age from 36 to 18. I’ve been bringing them since they were babies,” said Danny Garcia.

One veteran in attendance said it was the first Independence Day he had spent with his family in five years.

“Serving in the military, I think about my brothers and sisters who died in the battlefield so that we could be free. It bring pride to me, it really does,” said Troy Davis.

Volunteers will spend Tuesday morning cleaning up the park.
