Pueblo City Schools reviewing safety policy

After the recent safety incidents at schools in Pueblo, the district is considering changing safety policies.

The district’s communications director says they are constantly updating and evaluating their procedures, especially after the shooting at East High School and the scare at the Chaves Huerta Academy.

The district and Pueblo Police Department have a partnership to keep all of the school resource officers and staff up to date on the latest safety measures.

“The school resource officers are constantly, you know, checking information and they’re aware of those situations, and certainly that active shooter training was very beneficial and timely based on the events that have occurred lately,” said Capt. Charlie Taylor with the Pueblo Police Department.

The Pueblo police train all of their officers to be prepared for active shooter situations.
