Storm packs a punch in southeast El Paso Co.

Drivers struggled with whiteout conditions and slick roads in Falcon, near Highway 24 and Woodmen.

Highway 24 was even closed for several hours from Falcon to Limon.

“I’m a little frustrated because we live that way. I just came and got him from the airport. It’s been about a six hour drive and now my oldest kids are with my youngest at home and now we have no way to get home,” said drivers Justin and Abbey Martinez.

Wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour also made for dozens of slide-offs along those major roads.

The Red Cross, along with the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management, opened an emergency shelter for those needing help in the area.

It will be open through the night, located at the Patriot Learning Center in Falcon.
