Storm blamed for fatal accident in Monte Vista

Monte Vista Police Chief James Grayson says a 70-year-old man was killed Saturday while clearing snow.

James Aldridge was using an ATV at his home on East Drive when a large tree branch fell on him.

Several firefighters were down the street trying to free a fire truck that was stuck in the snow. They responded and freed him. He was reportedly unconscious and not breathing.

Firefighters and emergency medical personnel administered first aid and transported Mr. Aldridge to the hospital in Alamosa, where he later died.

According to the Rio Grande Coroner’s Office, an autopsy will be scheduled.
