Denver hotel fire prompts three-alarm response

A fire at the Rockies Inn motel in south-east Denver prompted a three alarm response Friday afternoon.

The blaze, which burned on Evans Ave., just off I-25, destroyed the roof of the property and created traffic backups during the afternoon commute.

The fire broke out on the third story of the motel about 5pm, sending up a smoke plume that some people could see from Boulder.

Despite the size of the fire, there were no reported injuries.

The cause is still under investigation.
