High fire danger reminder for Saturday

The Fountain Fire Department is preparing for red flag warnings on Saturday that could lead to more wildfires.

On Friday night, the department conducted wildfire training for its academy cadets.

“We’re always trained and ready,” said Capt. Daniel Baker. “We won’t be on patrol but we’ll have our wildfire equipment with us and will wear our wildfire clothing.”

Similar red flag conditions in southern Colorado were factors in two fires last Saturday and several fires Friday.

A lighted cigarette and ammunition discharges were cited by authorities as causes in three of the previous fires.

Firefighters again ask that you be careful when smoking outdoors and limit open burning.
