Volunteers rake up leaves for senior citizens in need

Dead leaves are starting to take over lawns in Pueblo County, but hundreds of volunteers in Pueblo came together to help clean up the yards for senior citizens in need.

The 17th annual Rake Up Pueblo event was Saturday.

Organizers said its a way for people to help out senior citizens who aren’t financially or physically capable to clean their yards.

“Our senior population is part of Pueblo. Our volunteers are part of Pueblo. It’s important that our community knows that there are people out there who are willing to health each other,” organizer Gloria Valdez said.

Central High School teacher Lois Conatore said she’s been part of every Rake Up event since the beginning.

“I like to do it because my parents would have appreciated this if they were still alive,” she said.

She brought a group of her students to help clean up yards in Pueblo.

Judy Artis is one of the people who benefited from the clean up event. She said it was a blessing knowing there are people out there who are willing to help out others in the community.

More than 100 yards were cleaned up in today’s event.
