Tornado watch continues for five southern Colorado counties

A tornado watch continues for five southeastern Colorado counties until 11 p.m. Monday.

The watch was cancelled early for most of eastern Colorado, but it continues for Bent, Otero, Crowley, Prowers and Kiowa Counties.

6:35 p.m. – Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office tweets photos that show storm damage in Genoa, which is 12 miles east of Limon.

6:21 p.m. – Tornado warning for Otero County and Crowley County until 7 p.m. Warning includes Rocky Ford, Swink, La Junta and North La Junta.

6:05 p.m. – Tornado watch cancelled for El Paso and Pueblo counties. Continues for all other areas included in the original watch until 11 p.m.

6:00 p.m. – Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Otero, Crowley and Bent counties until 6:45 p.m. La Junta, North La Junta, Rocky Ford, Ordway, Swink, Manzanola, Olney Springs, Sugar City, Cheraw and Crowley included.

4:50 p.m. – Wind damage to trees observed in the Elbert County town of Kiowa.

4:47 p.m. – Severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern El Paso County is cancelled.

4:42 p.m. – Tornado warning issued for north central Lincoln County until 5:15 p.m. Warning includes Limon, Hugo and Genoa.

4:31 p.m. – Severe thunderstorm warning for northern Teller County and northwestern El Paso County cancelled. Warnings continue across northeastern El Paso County.

4:15 p.m. – Tornado warning for northern Teller County and northwestern El Paso County replaced by severe thunderstorm warning, which will expire at 4:45 p.m. Severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern El Paso County extended until 5 p.m.

4:02 p.m. – Severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern El Paso County extended until 4:45 p.m.

3:54 p.m. – A tornado warning has been issued for north central Teller County and northwestern El Paso County until 4:15 p.m.

3:49 p.m. – National Weather Service reports confirmed tornado on the ground 30 miles northwest of Colorado Springs near Devils Head in Douglas County.

3:24 p.m. – North of the Pikes Peak Region, tornado warnings issued for southern Jefferson County, western Douglas County, southeastern Douglas County and western Elbert County.

3:16 p.m. – Severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern El Paso County extended until 4 p.m.

3:03 p.m. – Severe thunderstorm warning for northeastern El Paso County, including Calhan, until 3:15 p.m.

A tornado watch means that severe thunderstorms that are capable of producing tornadoes are possible.

In addition to the tornado threat, large hail, damaging winds, flash flooding and potentially deadly lightning will be possible.
