Rock mitigation will impact US 50 drivers

The Colorado Department of Transportation says it will begin rock mitigation work on highway 50 between Caon City and Salida on Wednesday.

The work is slated for Bighorn Sheep Canyon, which is about 20 miles east of Salida.

CDOT says drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both Wednesday and Thursday of this week. The work will happen on Mondays and Thursday beginning August 10 and continuing through August 27.

The work is necessary to remove loose rocks and debris that piled up on the slopes above the highway as a result of this summer’s heavy rain.
