Several vehicles damaged in car dealership fire

Police are investigating a fire that damaged four cars at Street Smart Auto Brokers.

The fire started just before 3 a.m. Sunday at the dealership near I-25 and South Nevada Ave.

The fire destroyed three vehicles and left minor damage on one truck.

“This is rare. I’ve never seen nothing like this over here,” neighbor Ron Mata said. “There’s a lot of gas there to blow up.”

Mata and his wife, Liza Mata, live in an apartment complex next to the dealership. They said they are thankful the fire didn’t spread to the apartments or a nearby business.

“(The cars) are pretty burned and messed up and it’s pretty messed up because it could have burned the other building.”

Investigators have not determined the cause of the fire.
