celebrating pride in southern colorado this weekend. the twenty- fifth annual colorado springs pride fest kicked off at america the beautiful park this morning. as krdo newschannel 13’s zach pagano reports the festival has a special meaning this year. it’s a celebration of diversity. we’re here celebrating pride, getting together, showing our appreciation for all the people who struggled for us. and at the colorado springs pride fest… equality is on everyone’s mind. just because i choose to love someone of my gender does not mean that i do not have equal rights i know they’ve been through a lot and i really understand the struggle and i feel like they deserve to have a day where they are treated equal. this year’s pride fest has new sign of support. colorado springs mayor john suthers wrote a welcome letter offically recognizing the event… the first time the city’s mayor has done so in more than a decade. many thanks to the mayor for recognizing pride, for recognizing community, and today and this weekend is the weekend to do it. supporters say the festival is even more emotional this year because of the supreme court’s gay marraige ruling. this is the united states of america. this is pride. some couples even marked the occasion by getting married at the festival. they say there is plenty to celebrate but there is still more work to be done. in colorado springs, zp krdo newschannel 13. pride fest continues tomorrow in colorado springs. there will be a 5-k race at ten a-m… followed by the pride parade through the downtown area.
