Flooding temporarily closes popular hiking trails

trails are closed … due to last week’s severe weather. portions of greenway trail popular running and hiking trails are closed … due to last we’s severe weather. portions of greenway trail along monument and fountain creeks … and foot hills trail at garden of the gods have restricted access due flooding. but as krdo newschannel 13’s zach pagano shows us … the closures aren’t stopping runners from lacing up. inside garden of the gods… there are more than 15 miles of trail to bike or hike. the beauty of the garden, variety of the trails, and it’s just an awesome place to run. but lately, runners like john gardner have noticed rough terrain. i think overall the trails are in pretty good shape but there’s definitely some erosion from the rain we’ve had. the storms not only damaged trails but some are temporarily closed. a portion of greenway trail is also closed after rain caused washouts near fountain creek. runners say this much flooding is unusual on these trails.. over the last 10 years or so, it’s been pretty dry. And then when you get this amount of water in this short amount of time, it’s definitely has an affect of the trails. tim steffens runs at garden of the gods twice a week… but he has to find a new way to get to the park. i work right off of garden of the gods and 30th street and i will run from work, and that closed my access to get into the park from over there. while some runners don’t mind extra precipitation… we could always use the moisture, so, it’s pretty nice especially with the peak this morning, all that snow on there, it’s just beautiful. they say it helps keep the scenery looking great in the long run. in colorado springs, zach pagano, krdo newschannel 13. the city does not know when the trails will re-open. runners and hikers are encouraged to look out for any other washouts from the rain. that brings us to today’s web
