Historic cemetery wants national recognition

People in Pueblo want a historic cemetery to receive recognition nationally.

The Roselawn Cemetery in Pueblo is applying to be part of the National Register of Historic Places.

Cemetery Executive Director Kevin McCarthy said there is at least one veteran from every U.S. war buried at Roselawn.

He said getting the national recognition will show how important the cemetery is in the U.S.

“If you look at the history of this property, and who is buried here and the fabulous tapestry of history here, it is a compelling story,” he said.

More than 60,000 people are buried at the cemetery.

McCarthy said if the cemetery gets national recognition, it can receive access to grant money to improve Roselawn.
