Last-minute shoppers invade stores on Christmas Eve
Big deals brought big crowds on Christmas Eve.
Major retailers and shopping malls stayed open until 6 p.m. Wednesday for all last-minute shoppers.
For some, it’s the adrenaline rush.
“I figured there’d be crowds, but there’s not…I didn’t have any trouble, it seems like they have plenty of selection,” said Jennifer Wiseman.
For others, couldn’t get away from their spouses to shop until now.
“It’s tough to go shopping for everybody else, but to go shopping for each other it’s like you’re always together,” said David Thorson.
And Thorson understands why other shoppers who don’t have a choice.
“I know people who live paycheck to paycheck, you do what you can and that’s all you can do,” Thorson said.
Retailers have heard this all, some staying open 24 hours to accommodate.
It’s paid off in the past and both shoppers and retailers are hoping it does again.
“I was really hoping they were open 24/7,” Wiseman said.
This holiday season typically counts for half of profits for the year.
“I think it’s a good deal for people in last minute situations, people who don’t have money until then or you can’t get rid of your spouse,” Thorson said.
“I haven’t run into anybody that’s been cranky. I think they understand it’s part of the retail nowadays,” Wiseman said.
Most malls and big retailers closed their doors Wednesday night, but are opening up early on Friday for the after-Christmas sales.
