Pueblo Health Department preparing for possible Superfund site

The Eilers neighborhood has not been selected as an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Site, but the Pueblo City-County Health Department is preparing for it anyway.

The EPA said an old smelter site in the Eilers neighborhood left behind significant traces of arsenic and lead.

Chad Wolgram works for the Health Department. He said the EPA will decide next month if Eilers will be declared a Superfund site.

Holgram said right now the Health Department wants to educate people about the Superfund process.

The Health Department is also buying equipment and training people about how to detect lead in the neighborhood.
