Pikes Peak Ascent

A big race weekend in Manitou Springs.

Nearly 1200 runners raced to the top of America’s Mountain today for the Pikes Peak Ascent.

It’s an 8,000 foot elevation change.

The first to cross the finish line was Sage Canaday of Boulder, Colorado. He finished in two hours and ten minutes.

Allie McLaughlin, a Colorado Springs native, was the first female to cross the finish line. She finished her climb in two hours and 33 minutes.

The 13-mile race is the precursor to tomorrows Pikes Peak Marathon.

No word if racers had any problems competing with hikers on Barr Trail.
