Victim of moped hit and run recovering

Colorado Springs Police said a driver in a hit and run accident is still on the loose.
Christopher Simmons was hit on his moped in the wee hours of Monday morning.

Simmons was unconscious and unable to call for help, but a passerby finally stopped to help him. He was released from the hospital Thursday (5-29-14) but has a long road of recovery ahead.

From Monday until Thursday, the 6th floor of Memorial Hospital was 27-year-old Simmon’s home away from home.

“The main thing I remember is that I was driving on Circle and I looked in the rearview mirror of my scooter, and the car was going like 80 mph and just plowed me over,” recalled Simmons.

Following the accident everything went black: “I don’t remember anything until like four to five hours later in the hospital,” said Simmons.

He is suffering from two broken ribs, a broken collar bone and some scuffs, but that’s not all.

“I’ve lost like feeling in half my face. So I can control this side, but this side is a lot harder to use,” said Simmons.

Aside from the injuries, Simmons said he is optimistic about the future. “Feeling relieved that I’m alive. Being happy that I have another opportunity to make it.”

While Simmons said he wants justice to be served, he has no desire to meet the person who hit him. His main concern now is looking toward the future. He wants to work with children in the medical field.
