Colorado Springs making plans to clear snowy roads

The City of Colorado Springs says it has a plan in place to clear snow and ice from the roads as an overnight snow storm approaches.

StormTracker 13 Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister says most areas can expect 1″-3″ of snow to fall between the evening of Wednesday, January 22, 2014 and the morning of Thursday, January 23, 2014. Most of the snow is expected to fall after midnight.

The city says it has the following resources ready to deploy once the snow starts to fall:

Heavy Trucks – 35 2 liquid heavy Trucks (2,000 gal wet trucks)
4×4 Pickups – 3 Ice Slicer – Yes Anti-Skid – Yes APEX Liquid Tanker (4,500gal pre-treat) – Not planning on pre-treatment but will be loaded for late/post storm deployment if needed

The plan calls for the city to monitor conditions until 12 a.m. Thursday.

At midnight they’ll begin clearing any snow that has fallen and putting down anti-skid material as needed. A total of 37 heavy trucks will be on the streets at this time, according to the city.
