Man dies in second rollover crash of the year
One man was killed in a single car rollover accident at Academy Park Loop and Fountain Boulevard on Thursday morning. It’s the second deadly crash in only the third day of the year.
Police said the driver of a white Mazda SUV was going southbound on the Academy Park Loop when the vehicle went out of control on the curve and rolled. Officers continue to investigate the crash, but they think speed may have been a factor. In their initial review, it didn’t seem like drugs and alcohol were involved.
The driver, only identified as an adult male, was pronounced dead on the scene. He was the vehicle’s only occupant. Police said the man was trapped inside the SUV, and the vehicle had to be cut open.
An officer first spotted the SUV at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. It was unclear how long it had been there.
Police said it’s unusual to have these many fatal accidents this early in the year.
