North Dakota Skates Past CC 3-2 in OT

Drake Caggiula scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift North Dakota over Colorado College 3-2 Saturday in a Western Collegiate Hockey Association game.

Caggiula helped seventh-ranked North Dakota avoid a weekend sweep at the hands of the Tigers (8-7-1, 5-3-0). He scored just 51 seconds into OT.

Colorado College won 5-3 on Friday.

The Tigers were on the verge of a sweep when Dillon Simpson tied it with 13 seconds left.

Tigers goalie Josh Thorimbert had three saves in overtime before Caggiula’s goal. Thorimbert finished with 39 stops.

Corban Knight needed just 34 seconds to give North Dakota the lead in the first period. But Rylan Schwartz tied it 1-1 less than three minutes later and it stayed tied until Archie Skalbeck’s goal gave the Tigers the 2-1 lead.

North Dakota outshot the Tigers 42-20.

Clarke Saunders made 18 stops for North Dakota (7-5-2, 4-2-2).
