Homeowner discovers burglar inside his home

A burglar broke into a home Friday after midnight, and the homeowner caught him red-handed.

Pete Scholly said he had stepped out of his home at Sawyer Way for just a few minutes, to test-drive his car. When he walked back inside, he was surprised to find an intruder.

“I walked in the house, and there he was,” Scholly said. “I was just shocked. I couldn’t believe someone was in my house.”

The burglar had Scholly’s wife’s laptop in his hand. The intruder ordered Scholly to get down, and pointed at him with a gun.

“That’s when things got a little different,” he said. “It’s not just an intruder in your home. But now, you’re dealing with somebody putting a gun in your face.”

Scholly said the encounter with the robber took about 10 minutes.

“He wanted money, and I’m like, ‘I don’t have any money in the house,'” he said. “I don’t know how to make this guy happy, so he’ll leave.”

Scholly turned over his wallet. When the burglar saw there was no money in it, he left without taking a thing.

Scholly said he doesn’t know why his house was targeted in the first place. There was a car in the driveway, and the lights were on inside.

Police say the burglar is a black man in his 20’s. He is described as having a medium build, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, and he was wearing black clothing.
