Eleven trucks involved in multiple I-70 accidents

One person has been injured after a semi-tractor-trailer carrying hazardous materials wrecked and caught fire on Interstate 70 near Limon. Westbound I-70 has reopened at Deer Trail according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The Colorado State Patrol said Friday westbound lanes were closed following four separate accidents, including the truck carrying a glue-like material that caught fire. The extent of the man’s injuries was not known.

Trooper Josh Lewis said snow and ice were reported in the area and several trucks were involved in the accidents.

The first crash happened about 8:20 a.m. Friday after a semi-truck burst into flames, state troopers said.

State troopers said multiple other accidents happened in the same area and are under investigation.

I-70 was closed in both directions for several hours while officials cleaned up the crashes.
