Flood insurance exception near end

A flood insurance exception for homeowners in the Waldo Canyon burn area is nearing its end.

There is currently no waiting period for a flood insurance policy to take effect. The exception expires September 7th — 60 days after the official containment of the Waldo Canyon Fire.

Norm Ashford with FEMA said, “It’s the first time we have made the exception. We’ve had a lot of participation for this.”

Those interested in buying flood insurance should contact an insurance agent to set up a policy through the National Flood Insurance Program.

If a policy is purchased after the deadline, the policy coverage will take 30 days to take effect.
