CSPD on patrol

Police are still on patrol in the Mountain Shadows neighborhood post-Waldo Canyon fire to prevent thieves from preying on homeowners whose properties were decimated by the massive blaze. The fire roared down the mountain June 26th.

Officer Andrew Genta took us on a ride-along to show us what he and other officers are doing to spot and stop trouble. He was one of the officers who helped with the arrests of four people who were trying to steal metal from a home that had been burned down. Officer Genta says, “There’s a lot of copper and metals that are worth a lot of money. Unfortunately, people are coming here and basically stealing and making a profit at someone else’s expense.

OfficerGenta says, “Once you start working the area you start to figure out who belongs and those who don’t.” He also saidhomeowners who’ve returned to their properties have been instrumental to help police spot people who also don’t belong in the neighborhood. He says, “We are doing as much as possible. I know there’s always a demand to do more, but we are doing as much as we can.”

Genta reinforces that in every neighborhood the people who live there are the eyes and ears of law enforcement to stop crime.
