Waldo Canyon Fire: 98% Contained

As expected, fire commanders had more good news on Thursday night, upgrading the containment number on the Waldo Canyon Fire to 95%.

The number of firefighters working the blaze has gotten dramatically smaller in the past 24 hours, as crews are released to fight other fires burning across the west.

As of Thursday, only 412 firefighters remain working the fire.

Light but steady rains on Tuesday helped subdue flames, allowing ground crews to make tremendous progress.

The burned area is listed at 18,247 acres, with hopes that the fire will be fully under control by Friday.

Residents are reminded that fire containment does not equate to a fire being completely out. Smoke plums are likely to be visible for days or even weeks after full containment is declared.
