Ranch inheritance dispute blamed for 3 deaths

Police in Colorado say a dispute over inheritance of a ranch led to the deaths of three people.

Durango police spokesman Dan Bender says William Decker, 69, was apparently unhappy after his mother, Margaret, died in April and left her ranch to her grandson, Robert Decker, 40.

The La Plata County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday night that investigation and autopsy results showed William Decker killed Robert Decker and his mother, Billie Decker, 67, then took his own life.

Bender says William Decker had been served with an eviction notice and ordered to be off the property in 10 days. Bender said he did not know the size of the ranch or how much it was worth.
