9-Year-Old Boy Killed In Pueblo Car Crash

A nine-year-old boy was killed when a car went off the road in Pueblo just before 5 a.m. Saturday, six others were injured.

Pueblo police said the crash happened on I-25 over Indiana Avenue.

Police think the driver may have fallen asleep behind the wheel. Witnesses told police they saw the car veer off the road.

The vehicle was a white Ford Expedition. Police said the driver hit a light pole, then crashed into two wire fences. Two vehicles hit the light pole, but there were no injuries in that accident.

Officers said the people in the car were from New Mexico and on their way to Denver for a soccer game.

The Pueblo County coroner has identified the victim as John Romero, 9, of New Mexico.
