More Soldiers Return To Fort Carson Monday

The happy homecoming was about 45 minutes later than scheduled, but there was no complaint from loved ones who’d been waiting a year for their soldiers to return.

On Monday, for the second straight day, 200 members of the 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division at Fort Carson were welcomed home at the Special Events Center. The troops deployed to Afghanistan a year ago in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The welcome ceremony was held just before 5 p.m.

The brigade’s primary mission was working with Afghan police, military and government to improve safety and security and help that nation better defend itself from insurgency forces. Many of the returning Fort Carson troops were in Afghanistan for the first time, after previously serving in Iraq.

The brigade began its gradual return to Fort Carson during the Christmas holidays. Army officials said about 3,200 troops will come home through the end of May.
