Crime Stoppers Opens Its Doors To KRDO NewsChannel 13
They take your crime tips to help police get criminals off the streets, and now the Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers is opening its doors to KRDO NewsChannel 13.
In 2011, the Pikes Peak Area Crime Stoppers received 1582 calls and delivered 45 crime tips to authorities that resulted in 11 arrests.
Crime Stoppers volunteers did that by taking your calls 24/7, and volunteers assure me they can’t do it without you. And anonymity is how they get your trust.
?The foundation of crime stopper is protecting the anonymity of the caller. That is critically important to us,? said Doug Berwick, with the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors.
Tips leading to arrests could mean money in your pocket, but volunteers on the phones tell us that some people are more interested in doing the right thing.
In November, police arrested a man responsible for a string of robberies thanks to a tip. Sometimes it’s a small bit of information that can change the course of a case for police.
?They didn’t know the individual, didn?t know who it was, but they knew where the person was staying, and just that little bit of information led to the arrest,? said Berwick about the tipster.
Crime Stoppers is run off of donations and volunteers.
