1 Killed, 7 Taken To Hospital After Highway 50 Crash

Highway 50 was reopened Thursday evening about 20 miles east of Pueblo because of an accident that killed at least one person and sent seven others to the hospital.

The Colorado State Patrol says a 2000 Jeep and a 2003 Hyundai coupe collided just after 2 p.m.

Troopers say the driver of the Jeep died at the scene. They say the seven other people were taken to Parkview Medical Center for treatment.

Troopers are looking for a third vehicle that may have been involved in the accident.

Witnesses say that car was passing illegally and caused the crash before taking off.

It’s described as a white Chevy Malibu or Impala with a black decal along the side up to the trunk area. Troopers say it may have “Respect for Life” plates and was last seen westbound on Highway 50. Anyone with information about the third vehicle is encouraged to call *CSP (*277).

According to the Colorado State Patrol: “The driver and front seat passenger of the Hyundai, a 33 year old female and 16 year old female, respectively, had serious but stable injuries. A 19 year old male in the rear seat had non-serious injuries. The front seat passenger in the Jeep, a 28 year old female, sustained non-serious injuries. Three children in the rear of the Jeep, ages seven, seven and approximately six-months, had minor or not serious injuries. The three children in the Jeep were in booster and rear-facing child restraint seats. Names are being withheld until notification of next of kin of all parties has been made.”
