Kidnapping Suspect Being Held In Pueblo

The man accused of kidnapping a 9-year-old girl is in the Pueblo County jail.

Jail records show he faced second-degree kidnapping and sexual assault by a person in a position of trust. Authorities have not said whether the girl kidnapped was the victim of sexual assault. Garcia is being held on a bond of $250,000.

Investigators said the girl was taken outside Columbian Elementary school Thursday afternoon in Pueblo.

Colorado Springs police said the car Garcia and the girl were riding in broke down in Colorado Springs Friday morning. They were picked up by a driver who did not recognize the girl from the Amber Alert issued Friday, police said. Officials said were dropped off at a Circle K near Interstate-25 and Woodmen Road. Police said the girl used the phone at the gas station to dial 911.

Garcia fled the scene, but was later found by police at a bus station in downtown Colorado Springs, investigators said.
